The Importance of Girls Celebrating One Another
Choma, have you ever been in a situation where you see another girl who seems to have it all – good grades, a perfect relationship, style on point etc. – and started comparing yourself to that person? Maybe they seemed to have everything you wanted or seemed to be getting ahead much quicker than you and this made you feel jealous or a little mad. It’s normal to feel envious of someone else chomas, but jealousy can soon turn nasty when girls begin to gossip behind each other’s backs and tearing down each other’s achievements instead of celebrating it.
But why think about success as something only one person can have? When you see someone else succeed why do you think that you too won’t be able to? You can celebrate the achievements of other girls and women without feeling like you’re losing out yourself and here’s why it’s important chomas:
Girls need support
No matter what stage you are in your life choma, it’s always good to have a group of girlfriends who have your back and push you forward. Did you know that having a good group of friends actually helps you make better decisions?
There are many girls who don’t have the opportunity to succeed in the ways they want to because they simply don’t have the freedom or the means to. This is why seeing another girl or women succeed should be celebrated even more. Women need each other because there are a lot of people who will doubt them along the way. But if women stick together and encourage one another to achieve, they would more likely believe in themselves.
There’s a quote that goes “Behind every successful woman is a tribe of successful women who have her back”. This means that women succeed when other women help them succeed, not because they compete.
Girls need positivity
Feeling better about other women’s achievements makes you feel better about yourself. Think about it choma. How do you feel about yourself when you compare yourself to someone else? You feel down, sad, angry, irritated, doubtful, hurt or vengeful right? You would have negative feelings about yourself and the person you’re comparing yourself to. Now think about how you feel about yourself when you actually feel happy for someone else. You feel glad, proud, hopeful and motivated right?
There are many times women are encouraged to compete against each other and this actually ends up holding us back because it seems like the only way to get to the top is to step on someone else. This isn’t true choma. Success between women can be shared and it becomes more possible when love, support, and positivity between women is shared.
Girls need one another
Women and girls need one another choma, full stop. All women are beautiful, strong and capable. Someone else’s strength doesn’t make you weak choma and someone else’s achievement doesn’t make you a failure. We shouldn’t criticise each other for trying our best to move forward because that will only hold us back. When you’re at your lowest it will be your girls who will understand you best and help you get back up. When you are at your highest your girls will be the best people to celebrate with because they would know that they could rise to the top too. Celebrate the achievements in your friends’ lives and see how much better you feel about your own choma.
