5 Ways to Love Yourself Today
You may have heard the phrase, “Love yourself more” a few times. But choma, do you know what it actually means and what it requires? Does it mean spending more time doing nothing, but having me time and treating yourself to your favourite food or staying away from toxic relationships? Well choma, it can be all of these. However, loving yourself requires more than these things, it requires you to listen to your instinct, to make and learn from your mistakes and learn to listen to your body when it needs your attention.
Go to bed early
There are benefits to going to bed early choma. You have more energy throughout the day - meaning you can exercise more, which can help you release those happy chemicals, endorphins, and maintain a healthy weight. You are more alert, so that helps you focus better and pay closer attention to things, including paying closer attention to your body and your emotions. Make going to bed early a treat. Be conscious of what you put in your body
Evaluate how you speak to yourself; how your relationships are and what you allow yourself to watch and listen to on TV and the radio. If most of these things don’t enrich your life, then it may be time for a change.
Believe in your own strength
There will come a time where you are faced with difficulties in your life and ultimately, you will have to make the decision on how you deal with them. Ask for guidance from a positive role model in your life on how to deal with these difficulties. We all have different obstacles that we have to face choma. But, once we learn how to overcome them, we become stronger. Realising your own strength will teach you to appreciate yourself more!
Realise your self-worth
When you’re too concerned about what other people think of you and you try to please everyone, you stop focusing on who you truly are . Understand that not everybody will like you, and that’s okay. As long as you’re appreciated by the people that matter to you. Remember that at the end of the day, your own approval is enough.
Spend time alone with yourself
I know you’ve heard this before choma, but that just shows you how important it is. There is beauty in getting to know yourself better, learning your own weaknesses and strengths on your own. You will never experience a deeper level of self-love than making some time with just yourself choma. So get off your cellphone, switch off that TV and hang out with yourself. Take a walk, eat by yourself or watch that movie that no one else is interested in. It may be uncomfortable to do at first and you may wonder if people think you are weird for eating out alone. But, carry on doing it until you get comfy, there’s nothing more freeing than spending time alone.
Choma, you don’t have to apply them all at once, but try and pick a couple of them to do this week and then try and do another few over the month. Practise these tools regularly and you’ll be amazed by how incredible you are. Eventually you’ll start to see the remarkable person others close to you have come to know, appreciate and love.
