A checklist for a healthier you

A healthy lifestyle is a great way to improve your whole life. The little choices you make every day, from what you grab for lunch to how you spend your evenings, all affect your health and how you feel. Here’s a checklist to help you make healthier decisions.

Be physically active

Just 30 minutes of moderate exercise about 3 times a week can make a big difference in your physical and mental health. You don’t even have to go to the gym or spend long hours on exercising – a 10 minute quick walk can make a huge difference.

Eat better

Healthy food choices go a long way toward good health, and you don’t even have to give up your favourite foods. Try to eat at least five servings of fruits and vegetables every day. Start with fruit for breakfast, snack on crunchy vegetables at lunch, and eat a large salad for dinner. Your body and mind will thank you.

Be sexually wise

Take responsibility for your sexual and reproductive health, Choma. Start by making sure you get tested regularly, talk to your partner about sex and contraceptives if you are sexually active, and remember to always use protection to prevent the transmission of STIs, like HIV.

Be positive

Don’t overlook your mental health. Attitude and stress can affect your physical health in a big way. If you find that you are struggling to cope with stress and life’s daily pressures, remember you can always talk to me.

Prioritise

Although you want to do everything on your ‘to do’ list, you need to separate tasks that need to take priority and work your way down, that way you will achieve more because you would have given each task the necessary time and urgency it needs in order to get it done properly.

To live a better life takes a bit of discipline but it will all be worth it in the end. Take your health into your own hands and choose to make better decisions.
