5 ways to spring clean your lifestyle

Since we’re at the end of another year, it’s a good time to think about all your habits and how you can do better mentally, physically and in your social life. Here are a few ways you can spring clean your lifestyle and make room for better habits.

Declutter your space

If you’re surrounded by clutter and things you don’t really use, it’s a good idea to clean up your space and get rid of stuff that’s no longer useful to you. This can be clothing, old books, collectibles etc. Getting rid of clutter helps you feel lighter and allows you to think more clearly.

Clean up your social media

This is a great time to do a bit of a social media ‘audit’, Choma. This means going through your social media and unfollowing accounts that don’t bring you joy or empowerment, deleting posts that no longer align with who you are and following new accounts that spread love and positivity.

Clean up your diet

Have you been eating junk food and binging on unhealthy snacks? I know that this is a tough habit to kick, but now is a good time to clean up your eating habits. Start by making a list of all the things you’d like to add to your diet and then take a look at your fridge and see if you can make some small changes. Choose healthier alternatives to foods you eat on a daily and consider starting a small garden where you can plant some veggies to help you eat healthier on a budget.

Balance your finances

Whether you’re in school relying on your allowance, or working, it’s never too early or too late to make better financial decisions. Start by drawing up a budget, setting financial goals and figuring out a savings plan. You can also check out Youtube channels like The Financial Diet or social media accounts, such as Financial Fitness for Women and the Financial Bunny to help you make better decisions with your money.

Prioritise your health

Your health is really important and sometimes when we get caught up in the busyness of everyday life, we can forget to take care of it. Write down all the different ways you can take better care of yourself like exercising more, getting your sexual health screenings done, using condoms, taking care of your skin etc. These are all ways that you can take better care of your body and feel good about yourself.

The kind of life you want to live depends on the lifestyle choices you make. Checking in with yourself often to see what you’ve been doing right, and what you could do better is a great way to stay on the right track and keep working towards your goals. Remember, that this is about being honest with yourself without being discouraged or beating yourself up about things.
