Choma Loves: 5 quotes about Gender Equality

Gender equality means the state of everyone being equal, regardless of their sex, gender or sexuality. Often time, this means empowering those who are more vulnerable and seen as having less opportunities for equality – such as women, and members of the LGBTQIA community. Here are 5 quotes about gender equality to inspire us to fight for change:

“All human beings deserve equal treatment, no matter their gender identity or sexuality.” – Andreja Pejic

Everybody has the right be treated fairly and to not be discriminated against. At the end of the day, where they come from, who they associate themselves with or who they choose to love (especially when it isn’t hurting anybody) shouldn’t make them less worthy of respect.

“Both men and women should feel free to be sensitive. Both men and women should feel free to be strong.” – Emma Watson

Men and women should be able to express their emotions freely without feeling embarrassed or being humiliated. For example, a man should be able to cry when they need to instead of bottling things in because they’re afraid of being called weak or too feminine.

“Gender equality is a human fight, not a female fight.” – Frieda Pinto

Gender equality affects everybody. In order to put an end to it; every single person has to stand up against inequality because the most effective way to overcome it- is to fight together.

“I believe in equality. And I believe there is no difference between a man and a woman.” – Malala Yousafzai

Besides the physical differences between men and women, we are all equal. That means we are all capable of achieving great things, regardless of gender differences.

“Genuine equality means not treating everyone the same, but attending equally to everyone’s equal needs.”- Terry Eagleton

Equality should apply to everybody, including people who are vulnerable. For example, you shouldn’t treat someone who is less fortunate than you badly because they too have rights and they deserve to be treated with dignity.

Gender equality is important because it is a step towards human rights and realising that, at the end of the day, all humans are equal. Equality between both sexes will exist if we all get to enjoy or have access to the same opportunities, access to education and health.
