How to raise awareness this World TB Day

Tuberculosis (TB) is a contagious infection that usually attacks your lungs but can also affect other parts of your body. Each year on the 24th of March, we commemorate World Tuberculosis (TB) Day to raise public awareness. Here’s how you can play your part.

On social media

Did you know that you can make your voice heard using social media? It’s as simple as signing or creating an online petition or sharing videos and posts highlighting TB awareness or stigma. Social media is the simplest way to raise awareness, join online campaigns and encourage others to speak out.

At school

You can join or create a group at school to raise awareness among the learners and staff. You can use this as a platform to educate others about the importance of treatment. This way, more people will be informed about the facts around TB and how to prevent the spread.

Use local media

You can raise awareness through the media. For example, you can write a letter to your local newspaper or contact your local radio station or community TV channel asking if you could join in on a discussion around TB. The media is a great way to reach out to many people.

Start a campaign

Why not start your own campaign with likeminded friends or family? Just remember to decide on a clear plan and goal. You can even create a petition to raise funds towards TB treatment. This way, you can raise awareness in your own community eliminating the stigma many communities have around TB.

Educating your community is one of the most important ways to raise awareness and commemorate the cause. People who know what actions they can take to reduce the risk of contracting TB, the importance of treatment and more facts around TB, can definitely help create a safer community.
